Improve the INVEST in America Act

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has unveiled a bold, forward-thinking transportation bill that could set us on a path for safer, healthier and more connected communities—and with one key amendment, it would realize its aspiration to accelerate critical connections to enable Americans to walk, bike or roll to everyday destinations or between communities.

The biggest potential game-changer is the new Active Transportation Connectivity Grants program that will fund critical links between existing trails, sidewalks and bikeways. This focused funding will provide communities the resources they need to complete biking and walking networks to connect people where they want to go. Unfortunately, the INVEST in America Act only funds this key innovation for one year.

Increasing this investment in this innovative program and expanding it to the full four-year reauthorization period of the bill would provide the sustained funding communities across the country need to build walking and biking networks to meet surging demand for safer ways to get to essential destinations, like grocery stores, schools and jobs.

UPDATE: Rep. Chris Pappas has introduced an amendment to extend the Active Transportation Connectivity Grants program to cover fiscal years 2022 through 2025.

Act now: Tell your member of Congress on the House T&I Committee to support the INVEST in America Act and extend funding for Active Transportation Connectivity Grants by voicing support for Rep. Pappas’ amendment.
