Trails Can Help Reduce Emissions

A new federal rule could help communities create more trails while reducing emissions that cause climate change. But the U.S. Department of Transportation must act now.

More than 118,000 individuals and organizations, including more than 15,000 trail supporters like you, submitted comments in support of this important new rule—and now we need your help to make sure that officials finish the job.

The proposed Greenhouse Gas Emissions Performance Measure rule, through the Federal Highway Administration, would encourage investments in safe, connected trails and other biking and walking projects to help state and local officials meet emission-reduction goals.

Take action now: Urge Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to finalize the proposed Greenhouse Gas Emissions Performance Measure rule. Personalized comments are especially effective.
