Improve the Recreation Passport Program

With a small change, Michigan’s Recreation Passport can help create and protect more trails and outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

If the state moved the purchase of the passport to an opt-out system when residents are renewing or registering a vehicle, it would help increase funding for the program by more than $17 million—nearly doubling available funding through the Recreation Passport Grants program.

Increased funding for the Recreation Passport Grants program would help meet demand for maintaining and improving local outdoor facilities.

That means more Michiganders will be able to access and enjoy more trails and outdoor spaces!

Take action now: Write to your legislators today and urge them to support making these small, but meaningful, changes to the Recreation Passport program. Personalized messages work best: Tell your legislators why funding trails and the outdoors is important to you, and encourage them to support moving to an opt-out Michigan passport program.
